British Values

The DfE have recently reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.”

The Government set out its definition of British values in the 2011 Prevent Strategy, and these values were reiterated in 2014.   At William Lilley Infant and Nursery School we promote these values through many opportunities which include:

  •  School council and School Parliament
  • Celebrating different faiths and beliefs
  • Promoting our own 'Proud' rules
  • Strong and consistent PSHE curriculum which infiltrates all elements of the curriculum

These are just some of the opportunities we provide.  For more information, please take a look at our British Values statement.

We have incorporated British Values in our School Improvement Plan for 2018/19, where a priority is to build on the International Dimensions Foundation award we achieved in 2018 and work towards achieving the 'International Dimensions Immediate level'.
