The curriculum at William Lilley Infant and Nursery school has been designed to support pupils to know more and remember more. Long term plans have been carefully created to ensure clear progression of knowledge, skills and vocabulary from nursery to year two. The curriculum design has been considered to ensure that key concepts are presented repeatedly; with deepening layers of complexity or in different applications. This is referred to as a ‘spiral curriculum’.
A knowledge organiser is a document, that contains key facts and information that children need to have a basic knowledge and understanding of a topic. At William Lilley our knowledge organisers are presented with four main elements:
key knowledge
vocabulary and terminology to support the key knowledge
reference to prior learning
including the talk for writing key texts
Our knowledge organisers will consist of one pictorial, easily accessible document for children AND a further more detailed document for adults to help adults support children’s understanding at home.
Please see our 'Knowledge organisers' booklet for more information on how to use this to help at home.
